Permanent Exhibition

  • The Passion of Christ: The Flagellation 1951

  • The Passion of Christ: The Resurrection 1951

Those paintings were exhibited in “The Passion of Christ” exhibition (1952, Drouant David Gallery, Paris) with The Crucifixion (owned by Maurice Garnier Gallery, Paris) .
Buffet depicted Christ with strait and powerful lines in monochrome tone on the huge canvases of 2.8 meters in height and 5 meters in width. The carefully controlled expression and its stoicism seize visitor’s inner-self and raise a sympathetic emotion to this tragedy. The deep spiritual sorrow enrobed in a finished style of beauty lets us feel the painter’s calm passion and faith. The ambitious works were realized three years after he gained his fame by being awarded the Prix de la critique at the age of 20 years old.
